I promised someone a suit design once I finished making a couple things for myself.

[Probably should have gotten the guy's name, but he'll see this anyway.

Then he holds up another book to the journal to show off some sketches. A green jacket, black vest, and gray and white shirt with a black tie and black dress pants.]

You said you preferred green and black.

[Hikaru has made himself capris and a good sleeveless shirt. He's halfway done with a pair of jeans, too. Those just require more breaks because denim is just annoying to work with.

But he had one special project. One he'd gotten the idea for when a few people had reacted with surprise. That meant it had to be done. Just for the shock factor, even.

It was a little regrettable he didn't have a wig -- it would look even better with long hair. But he'd designed it with Haruhi in mind, so short hair worked just as well.

So, as he went between the Item Shop, All Passions, and even stopped at Seventh Heaven for lunch, Hikaru Hitachiin could be seen wearing a pink sundress complete with heeled sandals he'd found in the clothing store.]

Mmm, that's a rather different style than that to which I'm accustomed. But I like it. A bit of change could be good.

Delivering what everyone's seen before gets old fast in the design world.

I'm accustomed to rather... formal modes of dress.

Business suits. Dime a dozen. I mean, sure. Every wardrobe needs a couple good ones, but you've gotta have variety, too.

Business suits are actually something of a novelty for me still. Though I do like them.

They're okay. But it's even better to have a suit that doesn't have to be a business suit.

Like this? Good pair of jeans, maybe lose the vest -- nice casual outfit. Business suits, eh. You can only wear 'em so many places.

[Which is a nice-ish way of saying "My stuff's better."]

Hm, interesting. So there's rather more versatility to it. [He hasn't been on Midgard that much, give him a break.]

So long as it has long sleeves and proper trousers, I shall try more fashions.

It'll probably take me about two weeks to make.

All right. I haven't a particular occasion for which I require it.

Well, that's good. Because I don't do rush jobs.

You may well be quite popular by the time the... Christmas Ball rolls around, I should think.

Any better idea what sort of lack you have that a payment would fill?

Christmas Ball, huh? Pretty fancy party?

[He hopes so. He needs some kind of class in this place, seriously.]

I don't suppose you have a sewing machine, do you? I'm borrowing one, but a nutcase with the place I borrowed it from tried to demand I work for her for even using it.

But if not... I don't know of anything I need, but I can always use stuff. [Nothing specific. Just a price to give his work some value here. After all, it took time.]

Fancier than anything else here. [His tone seems to state, "that's not saying a lot."]

[Ah, finally something more concrete.] I am not familiar with such machines. Let me see what I can do.

Might be something to do, at least. [Especially if he does start getting his name out for making clothes.]

'tis worth looking for such a project. There's little enough else to be done in this cesspit of boredom.

There's not a lot that doesn't bore us.

But it might be at least a little interesting to really get to make some fancy clothes. Lots of colors, lots of designs. See how different I can make them look.

[He's already sketching ideas as he talks, actually.]

Mmm. I certainly have a taste for the fancy. It'd be nice to see things a bit more... upscale.

Definitely. Clothes are what I do.

That's pretty impressive, especially since you look like you're about my age. How long have you been making them?

My mom's a designer. So, as soon as I was old enough to hold a needle, I learned how to sew.

I get what that's like. I'm a second generation magician. Trade out the needle for a wand, and you've pretty much got me.

A magician, huh? Ever headlined at a major show?

That's a bit much for a fifteen-year-old, don't you think? My dad's the headliner.

But what about you? Your stuff looks like it could be sold at a store.

Not really. You're American, right? Don't you guys have some pretty long breaks from school in the summer? That's a good time to be doing shows. I mean, maybe not Vegas or anything, but something.

My mom's letting my brother and I show a collection at Paris for the spring/summer season. Which I've been told I won't miss because I'm here.

Better not miss it. I'll kill someone if I do.

Except that would kind of defeat the point of summer vacation. Not to mention shows are pretty hard to schedule around being a superhero. I should probably graduate high school first.

[Especially since she could just see her father's reaction if she tried to drop out to start doing stage shows.]

Wow. That's really impressive. [Seriously, Paris?] But yeah, you won't miss it. Time doesn't pass the same way, or something like that. People back home won't even know you're gone--and neither will you, once you get back.

[...Superhero? People here are so weird. Lot of them seem to have fantasy lives that put the boss to shame.

Though, well. He isn't shocked she doesn't work during the summer. Technically, none of them do. The school rules don't allow for jobs. But important families with business can employ their children without salary and skirt that.]

This place is so weird. But, hey. Long as I don't miss Fashion Week? I'm fine.

[Okay, as long as he doesn't miss Fashion Week and Kaoru hurries up and gets here. He doesn't like being alone. At all.]

You haven’t been here very long, have you? [Because that’s a pretty cavalier attitude, in her opinion.] Weird doesn’t begin to describe it, and I grew up with magic my whole life. I’m almost scared to ask what kind of world you come from.

[Though in truth she knows it’s more a lack of exposure, or maybe flat out denial.]

Didn’t think so. But you've been told about the stuff that goes on here, right?

Reality-altering "experiments." Which. I mean. They already performed mass kidnappings and stuck wings on our back.

And yet, it can get weirder. [And also worse. Granted, good things had come out of those experiments; Zatanna was pretty happy with where she and Robin were, and that wouldn’t have happened if the Shifts hadn’t. But there was a huge trade-off, and in the end Zatanna would definitely prefer to go without.]
