This place is so stupid.

[As he talks to the journal, he's sketching.



This place is great for his creativity, he's realized... but that's because there's nothing else to do. He hasn't left his apartment in a few days except to steal food from the communal kitchen.

Being forcably dragged back into the mindset of having Kaoru and only Kaoru to rely on... didn't go away easily. He'd missed his brother before, but it's only gotten worse since then.]

The people in charge are idiots. Why would you only kidnap one? It still doesn't make any sense.

[He might not realize that he can be heard right now. He hasn't been exactly careful about where his hand's brushed in the journal.]

We're not supposed to be apart.

[Although her memories of that strange experiment are starting to blend and fade into the background, she still remembers this boy. His sullen attitude and appearance are enough to connect him to the child she came upon and she stops, deciding to turn on her journal.]

I would agree with you on one point - the people in charge are rather stupid.

[She pauses.]

The dresses are lovely. Good to see you've decided to leave the fountain now that the weather is turning colder.

[He thinks he recognizes her voice, and the last remark is enough to make him sure.]

You're not German.

[Because, you know, "thank you" is out of his vocabulary. For either the (justified) compliment to his designs or for taking care of him even a little during that whole... thing.

He's not ungrateful. He just... is used to being waited on, so gratitude for things like that comes slowly. Or differently.]

Peggy Carter. And unless you use an alias as well, I would assume you are still Hikaru Hitachiin? [This time her pronunciation is impeccable.]

[A pause.]

You were a pretty good maid. [For only dealing with one Hitachiin brother. But, well. It's supposed to be a compliment.

Though...]

What's your favorite color?

[voice]

Is there someone you're missing?

[she knows the feeling. On multiple levels]

Kaoru.

[A pause, a swallow.]

My brother.

[voice]

I see.

[that's incredibly difficult. She has no siblings herself but people who are as close to her as they would be, she imagines]

If it's any consolation, when you return, it will be as if no time has passed. [so he will not miss you, she means, but saying it aloud seems entirely too harsh even if the sentiment is meant to comfort]

You should make a yellow one!

Yellow, huh?

[He knows a kid's voice when he hears one. And, well. The key to a profitable market is versatility.

Besides, he misses his sister. Not as much as Kaoru, but still.]

You like yellow?

I do!!! Yellow and red and orange are all air nomad colors, but I like yellow the best because it's SUNNY, like sunflowers and sunshine and everything. Do you have sunflowers at home? I never saw them until I came here, but now I like them a lot. And lots of yummy things are yellow, too, like lemon candies and lemons and bananas...

[ clearly Hikaru wanted a dissertation on the color yellow. ]

Yeah. I've been working on a few designs.

They're really nice. I wouldn't have guessed you were into stuff like that.

[...though maybe that had something to do with him looking pretty New Feather-y when they met.]

Red, blues, greens. Pretty basic stuff.

Maybe, but they remind me of a garden in bloom on a clear day. I bet they would look really great on someone!

The Malnosso are pretty stupid sometimes. Those are some gorgeous dress designs, though. I like the red one and the one on the far right.

They really are. I mean, what's the point in kidnapping one twin? It's just dumb.

There wasn't much point in making a bunch of people younger for a few days, either.

[Her poor father got to deal with a five year old version of her and an eight year old version of her brother recently.]

Unfortunately, the Malnosso aren't exactly shining examples of good life choices.

[While a Spartan by herself was a lethal weapon, it was the same as a hoplite: They depended upon one-another to work and defend eachother.

Not to mention, she understood where he came from. He conversed with him.]

He might have grown up a bit from being the boy who'd sat at the fountain, refused to go anywhere without his brother... but still very much the same young man.]

This universe pulls people by its on will. It's not something the Malnosso do. They make the experiments and put people in different enclosures. But it's this world that takes all of us.

[Something most forget, and even Daisy herself would like not to admit -- that the Malnosso are just as much of prisoners of this universe as the people in the enclosures.]
